  • John 6:1-15

  • Matthew 14:22-36

Opportunities for further reading: week #20

  • Esther 1-10. The story of Esther has many striking parallels to the beheading of John the Baptist in Mark 6 ( See Esther 1:3, & 2:18 related to Mark 6:21, Esther 5:3&6 and 7:2 related to mark 6:23, and many other aspects of these stories). The contrast of these accounts (Esther working to save the righteous, while Herodias and her daughter work to kill the Lord’s prophet) shows the lostness of the Israelites at the time Jesus came to reject them and inagurate a new people who are descendants of Abraham through faith.
